Welcome to our Adventure

We are off on an adventure-

Our adventure hasn't started yet--we are still getting READY for the adventure (though getting ready to go has been an adventure all by itself--but that is another post)!

It has been quite a path.

The PRE-PRE Story

I met Luke in 1998 and we dated till he left for his Korean Mission in 1999.  When he called to tell me where he was going he had me guess---I guessed all the normal places--all the not so normal places---even pulled out a world atlas and guessed--I will STILL wrong---seriously after about 10 minutes of guessing I was dying to know--South Korea! South Korea? Where is that?

He left for a two+ year mission and we wrote every week he was gone--well 95% of the whole time he was gone.  He came home and we were married about 2 months later.   We talked of going to teach English in Korea, but we didn't have the money to make it happen-so we went to school, had kids, bought a house and got in debt--the Great American Dream! Through out the years we talked about going to Korea, but by that time the Korean laws had changed and a college degree was required. neither of us had one--so we just kept living our amazing life.

The Pre-Story
Fast forward about 14 years--3 kids, a college degree (Amy), a self-employed (Luke)  making ends meet in lots of different jobs, and not so much debt. Luke had worked his tail feathers off and we were in a position for some different things to happen in our life.  So just after New Years Lucas and I discussed our vision for the upcoming year.  Mine was something like 1. pack up the whole house and start fresh  2. Do something different  3.  Be closer as a family  4. Enjoy life more.
Lucas was a little simpler  1. Try new things in order to help my talents become stronger and support my family better.

I am not even sure who brought it up but -- Lets move to Korea came up.  OK, lets go!  I like change, I like things being different.  I don't like feeling tied down (which for many reasons I was feeling that!).  I needed a change--I DID--ME!  This wasn't some crazy thing Luke wanted to do and was dragging us along.  Lucas is totally fine living in our tiny town (which I love most of the time), but I needed to have a change.

In my life there have been times when I had an idea in my head and just went forward--everything falls into place and looking back it was the perfect thing to do.

1.  Going to the College I went to--Never heard of the small town, or college,  and didn't know anyone-but everything fell into place and that is where I met my husband-and a few other reasons I was directed there.
2.   Buying our house--we tried to buy MUCH cheaper places, but once the family house came up things again just fell into place (we worked at it of course) and the house was soon ours.
3.  Korea--seriously one day we talked  about it and the next day the paperwork was in motion and we are moving ahead!

I will put in another post the paperwork stuff you need to get to Korea,

Of course we are going to South Korea (North Korea doesn't like visitors).

The beautiful place we are going is called Suncheon.  It is about 5 miles from the Suncheon Bay, which is connected to the Ocean.  We are SO excited.

Just to clear things up---we are doing great, Lucas is not a spy or wanted in the USA.  This isn't a last ditch effort to save our marriage or anything big like that--this is just my 'midlife crisis' adventure.

I will address the fear a lot of people feel about North Korea in another blog post--coming soon!

SO until then!

Welcome to our Adventure!
